Position Description
This University of Idaho position reports operationally to TechHelp, Idaho’s NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership Center, headquartered at Boise State University.
TechHelp, Idaho’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) center, is seeking a talented, creative, and curious manufacturing specialist for our Southern Idaho region in our Boise office. In this role, you will drive business growth and manage technical and training services for Idaho manufacturers, including food manufacturers. This position will develop relationships and trust with client companies’ leadership to consult on continuous improvement, advanced manufacturing, business management, and growth strategies to create lasting economic and jobs impact. As a manufacturing specialist, you will work in a fun and fast-paced team environment and be a part of the rich history of the University of Idaho and TechHelp.
You will have the opportunity to
- Proactively engage company leaders to make decisions on critical improvement initiatives and develop business opportunities to provide consulting services.
- Assist clients with continuous improvement and advanced manufacturing implementation, training, and technical assistance, including vetting additional consulting resources to meet client needs.
- Stay on the cutting edge of advanced manufacturing methods as an affiliate of the nationwide NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
- Collaborate to meet client needs with TechHelp Manufacturing Specialists, partner MEP centers, private consultants, and university (Boise State, Idaho State, University of Idaho) faculty, staff, and students.
- Travel approximately 25% of the time to support Idaho’s manufacturers with the discovery and delivery of projects and training.
- Develop ongoing relationships with the top leadership of regional public and private organizations.
- Using a high level of autonomy, effectively champion TechHelp’s internal and external capabilities to achieve near and long-term ROI.
At a minimum, you should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, food science, manufacturing, business, or related field; plus 5 years of demonstrated experience in
– Working in, consulting with, or selling to a food manufacturer.
-Implementing continuous improvement manufacturing principles.
– Experience with cloud-based applications, spreadsheets, databases, data analysis tools, engineering design, and CRM tools.
The preferred candidate will have:
- A Master’s Degree in engineering, food science, manufacturing, business, or related field.
- Experience in the following:
– Working as a consultant and ability to develop relationships with senior leadership and supervisory roles
– Leading organizations and managing projects that create transformational change
– Decision making on and implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies - Excellent communication skills
Required Other:
- Must meet the University of Idaho requirements for driving a vehicle
- Possession of a valid driver’s license for travel throughout the region and the state is required
Salary and benefits: The salary hiring range is $85,000 – $93,000, depending on experience. The position is eligible for an incentive plan and includes excellent benefits that provide health and financial protection plans and resources to promote health and well-being.
