The Sawtooth by Black Sage:

Idaho companies make a lot of cool things. In the absence of our annual MFG Day event at the Idaho Center in Nampa, the Idaho Manufacturing Alliance decided to do something different and ask Idahoans what they think is the Coolest Thing Made in Idaho.

The state’s phenomenal and diverse recreation scene has spurred really cool inventions in dirt bikes (Rekluse) and truck storage systems (Decked), and created an entire sector known as “RecTec”.  The state is also a prolific producer of innovation in its agriculture/food and technology sectors. Companies such as Simplot, Micron, and Lamb Weston are global giants. Aviation is growing with Quest and Aerocet. But the Coolest of the Cool for 2020 ended up being a relative newcomer. Black Sage provides anti-drone systems to military organizations, internal security agencies, and airport authorities worldwide. The company was established in Boise in 2014.

Detecting, identifying, and defeating drones is cutting edge and cool. Black Sage’s unmatched product innovation is cool. Protecting US military personnel is cool. Defending the airspace of some of the largest airports worldwide is cool. Providing security for leading intelligence agencies around the globe is cool. Working with the Air Force Research Laboratory and The Pentagon is cool. The company name with roots in the Western United States is cool. Naming its anti-drone system after the Sawtooth Mountains is cool. Black Sage’s office next to the Boise River and Bronco Stadium is cool. The fact that Black Sage beats competition from around the world is cool. Hosting visitors from around the world and showcasing Boise and the State of Idaho is cool. Black Sage loves Idaho!
